What standing seam actually means
On an exposed fastener roof the screws go straight through the face of the panel. Every one of those screws is a rubber washer sitting outside in the sun, and washers age. Standing seam hides the fasteners underneath the raised seam, so nothing penetrates the weather surface at all.
The panels run vertically from ridge to eave and clip to the deck rather than being pinned tight to it. Steel expands and contracts as it heats and cools, and that clip lets the panel move instead of fighting the fastener every summer.
It is the cleaner look from the street and the longer-term answer on the roof. Exposed fastener is still the better value per square on large simple planes, which is why our Masterrib panel starts at $4.50. If you want the two side by side, we lay it out on the metal roof cost page.

Why the install matters more than the panel
Any contractor can order steel. The difference shows up in who rolls it, who carries it up the ladder and who answers the phone in year eight.
We run our own roll forming and custom trim in Goshen. That means panel lengths cut to your roof instead of to a shipping truck, fewer seams, precision-fit trim, and no waiting on someone else's production schedule.
Our crews are our crews, not subs we met last month. We have been at 66607 US 33 in Goshen since 2009. There is a roll former in the building.
Two warranties, and we hold one of them ourselves. A 40 year paint warranty from the manufacturer on the finish, plus a 10 year workmanship warranty that Steel Master covers directly. A manufacturer warranty covers the paint. The workmanship warranty covers the install, and we are the ones who answer that call.
Our steel roofing is Energy Star rated. The reflective finishes cut summer heat gain, which lightens the load on your air conditioning through a Michiana July.
