One palette, two finish systems
Every color on this page is available on all four residential roof panels and on Battenlok steel siding. Only our commercial PBR panel runs a separate, shorter palette. All finishes carry a 40 year limited paint warranty from the manufacturer, available for all colors on written request. The workmanship warranty is a separate 10 year that Steel Master covers directly.
- Sherwin-Williams Weather XL SMP is our standard finish on every residential panel we run and on Battenlok siding. Smooth or crinkle texture. Best resistance to chalking, fading and scratching of any SMP paint on the market.
- Kynar 500 / Hylar 5000 PVDF is available with our 24-gauge upgrade. Widest palette, longest color hold, and includes eight premium finishes.
What SR and SRI mean
Solar Reflectivity is how much sunlight a color bounces back instead of absorbing, on a scale of 0 to 1. Solar Reflectance Index is the LEED measure built from reflectance and emissivity. Higher is cooler.
A roof at SR .64 sheds roughly two and a half times more solar energy than one at SR .26. If your upstairs is unusable in August, the color is part of that conversation. This is also where the Energy Star rating comes from.
A note on color accuracy. On-screen colors approximate the real chips within the limits of your display. Final selection should always be made from a physical chip. We will bring the deck out.
Two suppliers, two finish systems
SDI Steel
Our standard supplier for every Masterlok Lifetime and Masterrib Lifetime panel. SDI steel is produced in Indiana — local mill, shorter supply chain, no overseas coil delays.

Our supplier for the 24-gauge Kynar upgrade. Widest palette we offer, longest color hold, and the source for all eight premium finishes shown below.

The standard palette. Every color here is available on all four residential roof panels, Masterlok Lifetime 100, 150 and 175 and the Masterrib Lifetime Panel, and on Battenlok steel siding.
Crinkle finishes
Same Weather XL paint system with a textured surface. Crinkle hides oil canning and minor handling marks better than smooth, which matters on long runs and darker colors.
Premium finish
A directional metallic. The whole roof and its trim must be installed facing the same way or the color reads differently across the slope.
Kynar 500 palette
PVDF fluoropolymer, the top of the paint hierarchy for color hold. Available on all four residential roof panels and on Battenlok siding with the 24-gauge upgrade.
Kynar premium finishes
Weathered, aged and metallic looks. Copper Penny and Aged Copper are the closest thing to a real patina without the price of copper. Premium finishes carry an upcharge and typical lead time is longer.
Siding uses the same palette
There is no separate siding color card. Every finish above, the smooth Weather XL, the crinkle textures, Copper Penny and the full Kynar 500 palette with the 24-gauge upgrade, is available on Battenlok steel siding as well as on the roof.
That matters more than it sounds. Most metal siding gets picked off a short stocked list and ends up close to the roof rather than matched to it. Running one palette across both means you can match a roof and siding exactly, or set a deliberate contrast, without hunting for a color that exists in one and not the other.
The twelve crinkle colors are what we keep stocked, so those move fastest. Anything else runs as a special order and adds lead time. Tell us the color you want and we will tell you the wait before you commit to it.
Commercial is the exception. Our PBR panel runs a shorter commercial palette. Ask us for that card separately.
How to actually choose
- Look at it on a roof, not on a chip. A color reads completely different at 400 square feet on a slope than it does in your hand. Our project map gives you driving directions to finished roofs, so go stand in front of the color you are considering.
- Look at it at the time of day you see your house most. Morning light and evening light are not the same on a dark roof.
- Think about heat if the upstairs is living space. Compare the SR numbers.
- Match the trim, not just the panel. We bend our own trim in Goshen so it comes from the same coil as your roof.
Final color selection should be made from actual color chips. Printed and on-screen colors vary. We will bring the chip deck out.
